Correlation of EFL learners’ metalinguistic knowledge and grammatical accuracy

Grammar teaching has been a topic of debate for considerably long time. Researchers and teachers discussed the benefits shortcomings its explicit instruction, which entails students’ awareness metalanguage. Although much research investigated metalanguage, effect on improving grammatical accuracy is still an unresolved issue, concerning it relatively limited. Nevertheless, widely recognised that metalanguage beneficial grammar teaching. Responding to this gap, present study relationship between EFL metalinguistic knowledge their accuracy. The researcher adopted descriptive quantitative design where two tests were administered undergraduate participants (n=124). scores analysed using Blackboard item-analysis tool SPSS software generate statistical information regarding participants’ scores. findings revealed significant positive correlation This was moderate occurred at overall score level. Moreover, proper level not in perfect parallel with generated can provide insightful implications finding as supports claims importance instruction. It also essential learners they use develop learning. suggests areas may be helpful researchers further explore issue.
